Within Temptation is an Dutch symphonic rock band, which is started in 1997 by Sharon den Adel and Robert Westerholt. They started in the underscene with their first album Enter. From this first album came the single Restless. It didn’t get the Dutch charts. But the album did! It came on the position 32, and stayed in the charts for 20 weeks! But still wasn’t Enter their breakthrough.

In 1998 came Within Temptations first EP.
On this EP were 6 songs. Which 2 remixes, and 1 “hidden” song. Which was an track thats released on Enter

Their breakthrough came in 2000 with their single Ice Queen from their album Mother Earth. After this hit-single (who ended in the highest notation at place 4 in the Dutch charts) came the new Within Temptation single, with the same title as their album. Mother Earth.
Within Temptation played on big shows, and became an big Dutch band. Late 2002 came their first live DVD! Mother Earth Tour, with live recordings of the festivals where Within Temptation was that year (and earlier). With this DVD came an “live single” Never-Ending Story

In 2005 came Within Temptations new album The Silent Force.
Stand My Ground, the first single of the new album, was released a month earlier, and it was a hit.
It came in the Dutch charts at place 4, and stays in the charts for 9 weeks.
Within Temptations success was growing and growing, and they’ve released another single; Memories.
But before they’ve released that new single, Sharon sang together with other Dutch artists for Asia, which was hit by a hurricane. The single was called Als Je Iets Kan Doen and the whole yield went to Asia.
The Silent Force was an great album and Within Temptation gave an open-air concert at the Java Island in Amsterdam (NL) in 2005. From this concert came the live DVD The Silent Force Tour, and also for this DVD came an, promotional only, single; Jillian (I’d give My Heart).

In 2007 came the next Within Temptations new album, The Heart of Everything, but before the release came their first duet (recorded on a WT album).
Together with Keith Caputo was their new single What Have You Done.
Later that year the album was released in the US and Japan too!

Late 2009, Within Temptation came with an acoustic album, An Acoustic Night At The Theatre was released. An Acoustic Night At The Theatre was recorded in one of the acoustic shows, given in The Netherlands and Belgium in 2008. At this show, Within Temptation turned normally heavy songs, into small and nice acoustic songs. The album is made up of the acoustic set at Eindhoven’s Muziekcentrum Frits Philips, from the Theatre Tour in November 2008. The CD also includes a new song, Utopia, a duet with the British singer Chris Jones, which was released as the only single from the acoustic album, on October 23, 2009.

2010 was quite a busy year for Within Temptation and its members. In April of that year, Within Temptation gave their reprise for the Theatre Tour. A second turn, for the people who’ve missed it back in 2008, and for the ones who want to see them again, in theatres. After this second Theatre Tour, Stephen van Haestregt decided to leave the band, to work on the ‘My Favorite Scar’-project.
In summer 2010, the recordings for the upcoming studio album has been started. Any name of a new drummer wasn’t known yet, at this time of year. Within Temptation was working with a session drummer.
In July 2010, Sharon announced a nice collaboration with Ronald Kolk, a big Haute Couture designer from the Netherlands. They were going to work together on clothing for the upcoming European Club Tour. Sharon opened, a few months after the announcement, the Haute Couture Winter show for Ronald Kolk, in a creation of the designer – singing ‘See Who I Am’.
October 2010, finally Within Temptation announced more news about their upcoming work. First – they’ve revealed their new website. Second – they’ve revealed the album title. ‘The Unforgiving’ was scheduled to be released March 2011 as an concept album. With the album, there were going to be released six comics, three short movies and new merch.
At the end of 2010, there was a baby boom at WT! Martijn became father of a wonderful daughter; Marit. And Sharon and Robert announced that Sharon was pregnant of number three! The whole European Club Tour had to be rescheduled to the end of 2011, instead of the beginning of that same year.
As a beginning from the \The Unforgiving’-era, Within Temptation revealed the very first single from ‘The Unforgiving’ in December. ‘Where Is The Edge’ is going to be used as soundtrack for the movie ‘Me And Mr Jones’, together with another track from the album, called ‘Lost’.

The year 2011 finally came. A brand new era for Within Temptation. The ‘The Unforgiving’-era. With the release of the concept album in March of that year, Within Temptation has gone into a different direction. A concept album, a brand new idea. Some songs with a pop’ish influence, but still a big WT touch in every single song.
Together with the album, which is released worldwide in plenty different editions, came the comic series and the short movies from the ‘The Unforgiving’ concept story. In total were six comics in planning, and three short movies. Both were the base for the album, and in the comics and short movies you’ll get a good sketch of the personalities which appear in the ‘The Unforgiving’ story. Next to the comics and short movies, Within Temptation also brought a complete new merchandising on the market, with things as necklaces – wristbands – posters – bandanas – tour shirts – hoodies and a lot more.
Half a year later as firstly scheduled started the tour season on August 10, at Sziget Festival in Budapest. The real big opening for their ‘The Unforgiving’ tour season was two days later in Ulft, at Huntenpop 2011. Here, Within Temptation performed on their ‘First Challenge’. The whole album was played, and next to that a lot of other well-known songs.
After hopping to a lot of European festivals, Within Temptation went to USA and Canada at the beginning of September. And at the end of September was the beginning of the rescheduled ‘The Unforgiving European Club Tour’ – with shows in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, the UK, Portugal and a lot of other European countries.
Their tour has been recorded and weekly released as ‘Tour Vlog’ on their YouTube page.
Late October 2011, Within Temptation announced that they’re working on a full-length movie. After the three short movies, which were released with the album, Within Temptation wanted to continue working on this story. The movie was planned to be released in a few years, together with their new studio album, which was planned to be released at the end of 2012 or begin of 2013.
